What You'll Learn
How to use AI to get clear, jargon-free explanations of any topic — from medical terms to legal documents to technical concepts — and ask follow-up questions until you truly understand.
Why This Matters
Complex language is everywhere: insurance policies, medical reports, technical documentation, financial statements. AI acts like a patient expert who can explain anything at the right level for you, and never makes you feel silly for asking.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Paste or describe what you don't understand
You can paste a confusing paragraph directly, or just describe what you want explained.
Step 2: Ask for a plain-English explanation
Explain the following to me as if I have no background in this subject.
Use simple language and a short example if it helps.
[paste the text or write the topic]
Step 3: Adjust the explanation level
If the first answer is still too complex — or too basic — say so:
Can you explain that more simply? Pretend I'm 12 years old.
Or:
I have some background in finance. Give me a slightly more technical version.
Step 4: Dig deeper with follow-up questions
What's the difference between X and Y?
Can you give me a real-world example of when this matters?
What are the most important things I should know about this?
Tips for Better Results
- Specify the context. "Explain this as a patient, not a doctor" or "Explain this to a small business owner" gives much better results.
- Ask for analogies. "Explain this using an everyday analogy" makes abstract concepts click.
- Use Perplexity for factual topics. It cites sources so you can verify information.
- Follow up until you're satisfied. There's no limit — keep asking until it makes sense.
- Ask for a summary. "In one paragraph, what do I actually need to know?" is a great closing question.
